Yeah, he managed the "stumble" his way into the Presidency.. one of 40 or so people in the HISTORY of this country to do so.. Yeah, he's a complete moron..

People too often mistake good public speaking for intelligence.. I bet Bush would make just about anyone at Anandtech look like an idiot on most any issue.

He has degrees from Harvard and Yale... was a pilot in the miltary, and owned part of a MLB team for a time.. Yeah.. a complete idiot..

Oh, and don't forget he was the Governor of one of the largest states in the country for 4 consecutive terms.. I know, everyone is a 4 term governor these days... big deal..

Would you people criticizing him please post your "credentials" so we can decide whether or not you are idiots as well..
So you are saying the more documents you posses stating your qualifications the more intelligent you are? Did you know that you can actually purchase PHD's without having to work for them? So if I come back with 15 of those, I am one of the smartest men alive in your eyes? I believe that a person should be judged on his actions, and while his previous accomplishments are commendable, many of his current political quandries stem from previous poor planning and short-sightedness. I just wish he would listen to his cabinet, do what they say and get out of office in 4 years without doing too much damage.

Oh yeah, silly me... Harvard and Yale are just mail-in degrees.. Thanks for pointing that out!

I just wanna know what the heck a "Hispano" is? And I wanna know how I can "hispanically own" something... heck, can I just "hispanically" walk down to the corner store?

I wonder if I should also be afraid of "new-cue-laar" weapons... ;)

If you're part of the "legacy" in Harvard/Yale/etc, that's pretty much as close to buying a degree as you can get.

Speaking of the Presidential debates, Bush won them all. Why? Because Gore was supposed to easily roll over Bush in the debates, but he barely pulled out a technical draw. So as far as the voters were concerned, Gore lost big time.

i dont agree w/ that at all. im a republican (would never vote democrat) but it was very clear that gore won the 1st and 3rd debates, while bush won the 2nd. but both candidates would very rarely speak their mind, they would however tell the crowd what they wanted to hear (or think they wanted to hear). for example when the topic of affirmative action was brought up in the third debate gore starts saying how AA has nothing to due with quotas or people w/ lesser qualifications advancing over those with higher qualifications (a clear LIE), and bush wouldnt even say he disagreed with AA (he clearly does). he would dodge the question by saying he was for opportunity for all (basically not even address the issue).

they are when you're grandfather when to yale, and so did your dad who is president... the legacy system is pretty strong (or at least was stronger 30 years ago than it is today) it wasn't too hard for bush to get there... and like i said earlier, same case for his MBA at harvard... he was only in the bottom 20% of his class at Yale... he hardly got to harvard on academics.

I think we can all agree that bush is not a very good public speaker... I would even go on to say that he royally sucks at speaking in front of people :) There is one thing I have noticed, however, about Bush that I like. He tends to think about the answers before saying anything back and has admitted (at times) that he did not know the answer. The slow answer can be taken as slow-witted, but some if it is his mind at work. I am not going to argue about his credentials or how smart he really is, but I like the way he does not (usually) just say the first thing that comes to mind when questioned.

Another good choice he made was actually listening to his cabinet (again, most of the time) He picked some very gifted people and does not seem to be afraid to listen to them or go to them for advice.

The last thing that really comes across as cool to me about him is his more down to earth mentality. Other presidents (including his dad) went on vactions at some nice spot, where does he go? to his ranch in texas. I could not stop laughing when I saw the footage of the CNN and other reports struggling along in the thick underbrush and humidity as he walked around chopping (ok, sawing) down trees. You should have seen the looks on the seceret service dudes faces when he was brining that tree down... sooo funny.

Anyway, yes, perception does play a big role in politics, even when it does not really show the person. Bush does need to improved his speaking skills, no doubt there. But what is easier to change and matters more, speaking skills or cronic lying (and playing around with interns)?

Spike I agree with everything you have said however be forewarned that it is not going to play well here in this bastion of left wing 19 year old college students. They confuse deliberation with stupidity and discomfort in front of a crowd with idiocy.

Bush Jr. is a guy with average intelligence and special privileges. His dad and grandfather (a senator) went to Yale, as did two uncles. Any university that sees a history of distinction is going to admit the person even if he is a complete moron. He graduated in the lower tier of his class, and when he applied for the National Guard to avoid combat in Vietnam he was sworn in the same day even though there was a waiting list of 100,000. A former speaker of the Texas House of Representatives admitted under oath that he 'secured' a spot for Bush Jr on the unit, which included other senators' sons and at least 7 Dallas Cowboys.

Hey, I think you just insulted me (19 year old college student) :p.

But seriously, I don't think Bush sounds intelligent even reading what he says. I do listen to what he says, not just the rate that he says it.

I overstated myself when I said he was an idiot, but I definently don't think he is above average at all. And I think that we are better served by a president with above average intelligence.

He sounds more like a guy it would be fun to sit back and have a beer with. Not run the country.

At least he choose a good cabinent though (except Ashcroft).
