Prepping CPU for new HSF?

I just traded on the forums for a new HSF for my celeron 633@950. I am getting the alpha 6035(or something like that) with a delta fan. How do i get my old thermal compound off the CPU? I know I can use rubbing alcohol for the old HSF but isnt that a little dangerous to apply rubbing alcohol to a CPU core?
