Prepay electric?

I live in a managed building where the only utility I have to pay is electric. I have my account set up so that the SOA fee is automatically transferred from my account at the beginning of every month. Since the electricity is managed, I cannot set up any sort autopay for it.

Last month I ended up writing a check for $13... and mailed it out. I figure at this rate, I can pay off my bill one year at a time and not break a sweat. The economics work out far greater than my money sitting in a bank (saved money in stamps).

Good idea? Am I missing something really obvious? Will the electric company understand what is going on here?

It's also pretty cool since I figured out that there is no surcharge (distribution fee, etc) in this sort of setup. So I only pay 10c a kwh flat.

Just send them $100, they will just eat away at it till its gone. Just keep an eye on it so you don't miss out when your balance runs dry.

Wow, where do you live that power is that cheap? I pay like $170/mo. A small part of that is probably my server equipment though. I use a bit under 1MWH per month. Check to see if you can just do preauthorized payments so you don't have to mess with having to send cheques.
