I've never heard of the King Shepherd, but I've seen the mom in person, and dad in photos, and they are both normal sized. I think he's just big becaues the litter was so small.

Oh boy...he looks like he's going to grow pret-ty big.

That is the general thought. The litter was just two puppies (both males). Normally it is anywhere from 6-9. So they both got lots of attention and nutrients. They are larger than normal right now and the breeder said she expects them to be larger than average, though not huge (probably around 100-110 pounds, where the average male is generally 90 pounds).

He looks like a Leonberg that I used to know, and that dog was a monster. (Sweet as hell, though) The largest in the St Bernard family of dogs, I believe.

booooooooooo, should've adopted from a shelter.

Oh, and why is that?

B/c saving a life is more honorable than supporting a backyard breeder. Plus, there's plenty of puppies that need rescuing from shelters/adoption groups.

yea you should adopt before having your own child right?

give me a break. you aren't responsible for others screwups. if you choose to be charitable well fine. don't even pretend it has to be the first choice.

Yeah. There are 3 dogs that look pretty much the same. German Shepherd, King Shepherds, and Shiloh Shepherds.

The king shepherd has the same temperment and behavior as the german. It is extremely smart and a good guard dog.

The shiloh is bread to have a much milder temperment and makes a worse guard dog. Both the shiloh and king are much larger than a regular german. The king is a cross between a german and an alaskan malamute.

I am planning on getting a king puppy in the spring sometime.

1. Not everything in life has to be simply for "honorable reasons."

2. This puppy needed a home too. I didn't "order it." It was already born before I even began looking. So puppies that are born to breeders dont' need homes?

3. I properly vetted this breeder, ensuring it wasn't a puppy mill. In addition, she herself rescues dogs that need homes. She has a recue boxer, mixed breed hound dog, and a German Shepherd mix that was overbred at a puppy mill.

4. I wanted certain qualities in my dog that I know I'll get in a German Shepherd.

5. I already donate money out of every paycheck towards animal rescue. And the last two dogs my family got were rescue animals.

lol Capt you got owned.

Yet, she still breeds? For the money? Is it a purebred GSD? To better the breed? Does she show her GSDs? Breeds only conformation champions? Are you being asked to sign a spay/neuter/surrender contract? Have the dam/sire been tested?

The fact that she planned a litter for the holidays is a huge red flag.

Plenty of GSD rescues out there.

She breeds purebred German Shepherds, but from German Lines with a lineage that is attempting to breed out the huge hip dysplasia problem currently cropping up in Shepards. Also, she does Shutzhunde training. So she breeds for temperment for that training, and to improve the breed.

She shows her Shepherds.

She had a three page contract I had to sign. Outside of spay/neuter, also if at any time in the lifetime of the dog I decide I dont' want it, I give it back to her. In addition to other ethical stipulations.

Not sure what you mean about "tested"?

She didn't plan a litter to try to sell for the holidays. She is trying to breed a certain temperment. If she was breeding for the Holidays she could have easily have had 5 litters as she has 5 females.

She didn't have the sire on site (which is good, as that is another big red flag).

I hate this assumption that all pure bred breeders are bad and if you buy a pure breed you are bad as well.

Nope. Not too many people post pics of themselves to impress another man(alkemyst). But hey, whatever floats your boat. 😉

It was for Olds actually, maybe you are blinded by how similar you are to alkemyst (you know, man-crush-wise).

And no, because you looked down on someone like a pompous ass when it appears they have done more to help animals than you have.
