Are there plans where you can pre pay like $20 worth of phone calls, they give you a sim card, and you use those $20 up? then if you want, you can add minutes, or you can throw away the sim card, and you pay nothing.

bump, anyone know any companies like it? does the US have any? specifically massachusetts, i can't find ANYTHING

what about just pre-paid phones? you can get them at most places here, but you pay for the phone, not just a sim card.

yeah, he already has a phone

i was thinking virgin mobile, but when i called them up and asked if they had sim cards, the rep asked me wtf is a sim card 😛

I used to work for T-Mobile, apparently pre-paid SIMs are commonplace outside the US.

I have never seen one in the US & I know T-Mobile did not provide them.

AT&T and T-Mobile both have prepaid SIMs, thoughit's hard to find someone to sell you just a SIM. Best bet may be eBay, lots of prepaid sims with many minutes are for sale.

another suggestion for ebay. check it out. they come preprogrammed with phone numbers and airtime already added. All you do when you get it is call up t-mobile/att/whoever and change the number to your area code and away you go.

edit: he's already here... So maybe try swinging by your local t-mo or att/cingular shop and asking them to activate a sim on prepaid. It's pretty sweet in canada with rogers.. you get a sim card, activate online and they give you a $20 credit which would be easily enough for a week at 30c/min.
