Premier 6

I am trying to do some digital video editing using Adobe Premier 6. I can play the audio. I can play the video, but not both together (this is in the monitor). however, if i drag the arrow across the time line, it plays both, but obviously at an inconsistent rate, as i am the one controlling the speed.
can anyone help me to get them just to play together automatically?

fixed it
unplugged the DV camera
go figure
