Pregnant woman accidentally given abortion pill by Safeway pharmacy

Oh, so you just go to the pharmacy and pop the pills they give you? Don't look at the bottle EVER? Not ONCE to read to see if you should take it with or without food? To see if you should take it and then drive? please EVERYONE looks at these things when they get them, if they don't they're an idiot.

I always do a ton of research before I start taking anything. I also don't take anything narcotic, so that takes away most of your concerns. I also take all my meds at night, so I don't have to worry about driving. Unless I drive in my sleep, which would be flipping awesome.

What kind of moron doesn't inspect and read the label carefully before just popping pills?

Errors happen, which is why you check what the fuck you're getting and make sure it's what you're supposed to be taking.

Why would the woman up until finding out what the drug is have to want to have offed her first born? It could never have crossed her mind until she realized she could make a crap load of money off of it. Times are tough and like I said making another baby is a lot easier than coming up on 10 grand.

Sheesh man, life must be touch being so damn cynical 😉 I like to believe that there is at least SOME good in people.

I honestly must say, I don't often look closely at the label on the bottle. I just read the instructions they put in the bag.

Then you're an idiot. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but you shouldn't act all surprised if some crap like this happens to you then. I make sure to read the whole label and I even do a little research into what they prescribed me before I take it. Why? Because sometimes the doctor or pharmacist can make a mistake, so it's better to measure twice before cutting once.

There is good in all people. Sometimes it just not the kind of good that you can find easily.

I'd really like to turn this into an anti-abortion thread, but the story is much too sad to derail it like that.

Sucks for everyone involved.

I actually tend to believe most people have 'good' in them, at least what they interpret as good. Whether I agree with it or not are differences of opinion. I also happen to be a little bit more of a realist/pessimist as I find it helps keep me sane.

ps. i am not against abortion, but i am against them being used as birth control.

Maybe so, but I've had maybe two prescriptions in the past 15 years. I rarely get sick and I take mostly over the counter stuff if I do.

The times I got prescription meds the pharmacist always spent a couple minutes explaining "don't take this on an empty stomach" "take this only in the morning" etc. I honestly never looked at the bottles because the instructions were already given to me by a professional.

Because a professional could never make a mistake. OH WAIT WE'RE IN A THREAD ABOUT A PROFESSIONAL MAKING A MISTAKE! Seriously does everyone just trust "professionals"?

I switched pharmacies and the first time I took the pills from the new pharmacy I noticed they were different. I checked the label, then looked it up online to make sure I was taking what I was supposed to. I was just given another generic version of the same thing.

Moral of the story: look before you leap.

Is it the actual pharmacist that gave her the wrong drugs or the assistant? Usually you got pharmacist supervising assistants and the assistants do the work while the pharmacist verify the work before putting it in the bottle/bag.

If it is the assistant screwing up, it is not as scary as the pharmacist screwing up. Still...

Um, abortion isn't anything other than birth control.

Sure if you want to be literal. I was talking about as an alternative to the pill, implant, ring, getting fixed or even using a condom. I would never vote to keep or make abortions illegal, but I sure as shit would talk crap to someone who uses them as a replacement for those forms of birth control.

I'm in complete agreement with you there. It's just that when we're not precise in what we're saying, there's room for misinterpretation. 🙂

This story is a lot of hype. I doubt that the woman aborted her pregnancy. I'm not saying that the woman (I agree she's a victim in this situation) has the right to sue and make tons of money off this incident, but I'm fairly certain that no harm will come to her child.

Methotrexate comes in 2.5mg pills. They're tiny. You need something like 25mg to abort a child; it's more common to prescribe 50 to 75mg. Unless this lady downed the entire bottle of methotrexate, it's likely that the child will be fine.

wft is a 59 year old taking an abortion pill?

Lol, it is for treatment of some cancer remnants in your body.

I feel absolutely sorry for the woman who had waited all of her life to have a child, and ending up in chaos.

I think some of the PO cancer dosings are pretty high as well, so I suppose it depends on what it was prescribed for, and if it was for cancer, whether she followed the directions or not. However, given that the name, and med were wrong and she didn't notice - I'm going to speculate that she didn't take more than 1-2 of the 2.5s so I'd say you're probably right.

It probably slipped through the pharmacist that verified it... meaning ouch for the pharmacist.

yeah, that's gonna be one big ass settlement check coming, and just multiply it a bit if the kids dies or is seriously affected by the drug.
