Pregnant smokers make me sick

Apples and oranges, apples and oranges.
For the most part, those are all undeniable cause/effect relationships. There are a great many things a woman is exposed to over the course of nine months, which seems to make it harder to conclusively link cause and effect.
Well that's why these studies are done by trained scientists and not numbers thrown together by a journalist graduate. A good study in a medical journal will show an undeniable cause/effect relationship and it will demonstrate that smoking is bad for a baby.

Well, in the end, it doesn't really matter, because as long as there's no laws against it, she's free to do as she likes.
But to avoid the risk of a severe tongue-lashing, I'd recommend against saying anything to these women--pregnant women can be prone to fits of anger. 😉

[edit] Yes, I'm giving up my losing battle... but I do so love a good argument, even when I'm wrong 🙂 [/edit]

This reminds me one time a few years back I was eating at a restaurant. Some pregnant lady was sitting at a patio table smoking. The owner/manager of the restaurant came out and told her to put out that cigarette or get the fsck out of his restaurant.

That guy ruled.

Yes, yes he did.

Personally, I think they should be arrested for child abuse.

Th sad thing is pregnant women are told of these types of dangers by their doctors, so it isn't out of ignorance they do these things. They choose to do so. 🙁

Pregnant smokers make me sick

Hey, someone has to have flipper babies. Otherwise what kind of crazy world would this be?

It is child abuse!

Not enough to constitute a proper study, but I've grown to mistrust the data provided by others, which leaves me to deal with my own life experience.

and what makes you think we should trust you over scientific studies? i assume you believe we should, because otherwise posting your own life experiences is pointless.

i dunno what kind of chip you have on your shoulder, maybe you're a smoker, maybe you just like to argue, whatever. given the type of correlation we have seen with adverse side effects and smoking while pregnant, why would you take the chance?

There are cases where children have been removed from their parent's care due to smoking around their kids.

It would not be much of a stretch to list smoking as child abuse even in the womb. A woman can be charged with child abuse by doing drugs like heroin while she is pregnant. ( it varies from state to state)

My sister-in-law's brother got cancer from smoking. They sneaked cigarettes into him at the hospital. After the cancer killed him at 42 years old, do you think his mom quit smoking? Nah. Do you think my sister-in-law quit? Nah! Oh hell, maybe I'm just being judgmental...

My wife works with a gal who smokes. A few of them actually. They have to take breaks every 90 minutes or so to go outside for a smoke. Somebody has to take over their duties during these frequent breaks. Swell, eh? Oh, there I go being judgmental again...

One of those gals got pregnant. She quit smoking during the pregnancy, which is great. You'd think after nine months of not smoking, you could put that habit behind you, right? Nah, back smoking again! She comes out to her new, little, black Honda at the end of the day and spends a few minutes lighting up before she hits the road. God, that must take 20% off the resale value of a car, as if the cost of smoking wasn't bad enough already! 😕
