Preformance Diff Between CL2 and 2.5?

How much of a preformance difference will there be between 2 and 2.5? Is the diff even noticeable in games and real world apps, not just benchmarks?
 
changing from CL3 to CL2.5 gave me 1,300 3dmarks.

but for real world apps, i found no difference...

however, i think if you have overclocking in mind, i think if you run a CL2 stick at CL2.5, you can probably get more mhz out of it.
 
Are you guys saying that there is little difference between running C2 or C2.5 even when overclocking? I know very little obout OC so I am searching for information. If that is the case why buy Corsair or Geil C2 when you can get Samsung C2.5 for almost half the price? Educate me please, that's why I come here.

I think the difference is only really noticeable when benchmarking, I'm wondering how much of that difference is noticable in games or programs.

Like batman said you're always better getting ram rated to run CL2. That way you've got more headroom to play with when pushing your ram.
 
I have cl2.5 ram and I just set it to 2. I don't really overclock that much but when I do I don't notice any differance in stabiltiy.

typically ram rated at cl2.5 or even 3 maybe is at its limits in terms of mhz
ex:

stick 1 = pc3200 cas 3 (i dont even know if they make the stuff at cas3, just for demonstration purposes)
stick 2 = pc3200 cas 2

it is more probable that stick 2 will acheive mhz greater than 200, even if you have to sacrifice timings, but stick 1 is most likely not going to go much past 200, if at all becuase it can be inferred that the ramchips are at their max already (otherwise they would not be labeled cas3)

another thing is to look at ram chip ns (nanoseconds i think it stands for)
5ns ram is made to work at 200mhz (pc3200)
6ns = 166.6mhz (pc2700), but usually you can get (if its quality pcb and chips) higher...before 5ns ramchips (winbond ones) all pc2700 and higher was just overclocked chips...now there are 5ns chips MADE to run at 200mhz

Makes me love my cheapo current config even more (P4 2400 C1@3060 with default voltage and cooler, PEV Pro, Samsung 3200@425 2,5-3-3-6). Can't beat the combo at it's price. 🙂

 
Most things that everyone rave about make absolutly no difference in real world apps, besides ultimate hardcore gaming, and then only in extremly intense strains. I've found that my budget system runs pretty much anything out there at full everything.
 
cas settings dont do much on a single channel ddr board. (for hardcore tweakers only)

however on a dual channel board ~ its worth twice that 🙂
