Oh won't someone think of the poor downtrodden white (and especially Christian) men. It's rough when you've been top of the heap for centuries and suddenly get cast down onto a level playing field, I get it. Swing low, sweet chariot, the bell tolls for thee yada yada.

I'm a white atheist male and in almost 60 years I can scrounge my brain to think of maybe a couple times I've been "discriminated" against, and that was not getting picked at a pick-up basketball game...gimme a fuckin break with that. The "atheist" part is the only bit that causes problems in today's wannabe Gilead. My coworker goes on about it, he's like me a 50+ white dude working a cushy white-collar job and living in the suburbs, sounds like a fricking low-grade moron talking that garbage. Oh, so advertisers are being mean to you (supposedly)? Well, they used to be able to be raped and killed and sold at will, and couldn't vote or be a real citizen until not that long ago. Feeble, feeble, feeble and sad.

Their first effort seems to be to try to argue it's somehow illegal for the other party to pick their own candidate. Apparently they should only be allowed to go with the candidate they (the Republicans) pick for them.

The law doesn't seem to agree with them, but (it seems to me - this is just my anxious thought, not what's being reported) they only need one Republican-leaning crackpot judge and the whole electoral process will be derailed.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Republican national convention last week, Chris LaCivita, one of Donald Trump’s campaign managers, repeatedly used an incendiary word to describe the pressure campaign to get Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race. Those efforts, he said, were a “coup”.

“This is nothing more than an attempted coup by the Democratic party,” he said. “They are actively engaged in an attempt – in my view and a lot of people share this view – in deposing the president of the United States.”

It was language that foreshadowed how other top Republicans would respond when Joe Biden did drop out of the race, immediately suggesting that the move was anti-democratic.


During an appearance on Fox News on Monday, Trump and his running mate JD Vance endorsed the idea that Biden’s removal was illegitimate. Asked if they thought it was a coup attempt, Trump said, “Sort of, yeah” and Vance said, “I think it is”.

Mike Johnson, the Republican speaker of the House, suggested that Republicans would file lawsuits to try and prevent Biden from being removed from the ballot. The Oversight Project at the Heritage Foundation, the conservative thinktank behind Project 2025, posted on X: “We have been preparing for this moment for months.”

The organization has been circulating a memo suggesting a strategy for challenging any effort by Democrats to replace Biden on the ballot.

Such litigation would likely be little more than a public relations effort – legal experts have said there is no barrier to another candidate appearing as the Democratic nominee on state ballots because Biden was never formally nominated. Whoever is eventually nominated at the Democratic national convention in August will be able to meet state deadlines for ballot access.

“Assuming the Democratic party formally chooses a presidential nominee before or during the Democratic national convention, there are no legal barriers to that candidate being on the general election ballot nationwide,” Adav Noti, the executive director of the Campaign Legal Center, a non-profit that works on election issues, said in a statement.

“In all 51 jurisdictions, the deadline to name the presidential candidate falls after the nominating date at the convention. Legal actions attempting to block the nominated ticket from appearing on the general election ballot would have no merit and would be rapidly disposed of by the courts.”

Republicans wouldn't know what a coup was even if they witnessed a former president rile up a mob to attack Congress to stay in power while his people worked behind the scenes to throw out election results.

Harris does seem to get nervous when speaking publicly and goes into an expanding loop of what she's trying to say, or starts cackling. I don't see the point in trying to attribute that to brain damage, it's weak and foolish.

Personally I find a good cackle to be endearing.

Her "cackle" seems to be a new right wing theme, I've seen it elsewhere along with "DEI hire" and "unqualified" and the rest of it. Some big influencer must have made a video about it. Just add it to red hats and "woke" usage as warning signs to avoid that person.

I'd love a world where voters wouldn't give a shit about personal speech patterns or mannerisms, and actually cared about what the platforms are and who the people these people associate with, and might bring it to helm depts. That's what matter. And yes that means I can't let Trump's incredibly annoying way of speaking matter to me--and it really doesn't. His policies and the people he hires are way, way more than enough to cause me to vote the other way. His lies are more than enough. He could be twice the polished speaker than Obama was and it wouldn't move that needle.

The Democrats haven't even nominated anyone yet so the idea that this would need to be locked in stone as of this time is facially ridiculous. Biden voluntarily withdrew his candidacy, you can't be forced to nominate someone who isn't running.

Yes, the issue is that Republicans are going to judge shop and try to get Kacsmaryk or some similar hack to Calvinball his way to a favorable ruling for Republicans.

This seems to radioactive for even the biggest hacks to try and force election chaos but what do I know - I also didn't think there was a chance in hell SCOTUS would say it's okay for presidents to kill their rivals with impunity.
