Prediction for ten years into the future ?

AFB

Lifer
What will this country be like in ten years ? What will be the same ? What will be different ?

On a side note, maybe I need to lay off the coding a bit. I tried to make the message title a Java var. 😱:Q:shocked:

My prediction.. the world will be a lot like it is today, but newer. About 10 years newer. And, it'll have changed a bit, about as much as it has changed since about 10 years ago.

With inflation, the trade defecit, and the current system of government the american standard of living, and average income will continue to decline. By 2014 the US economy will no longer be the strongest in the world. The massive growth and smart financing in the Asian nations will make them global superpowers (economy wise). The middleeast will still be a mess, with Israel and Palestine fighting over the holy land. AIDs will still be rampant, and there is no cure for cancer. Oil reserves are nearly running out, and hydrogen fuel cells are still not effecient enough. There is a global oil shortage, leading to massive wars, famine, and death on a global scale. By 2020 the world population will be reduced to some 1 billion, and for the next 500 years there will be massive prosperity. The sudden surplus of resources allows for science to make gigantic leaps. By 2025 there is a space elevator, and a colony on the moon. Manned flights to Mars have occured. The contact with extraterrestrials that occured in 2027 dispell many modern religions, and the realization of our place in the universe unites mankind on a common front. After this, the future is hazy.

Still no flying cars.

Nice predictions, Ketteringo, but I'd ammend them two ways; 1) Isreal and Palistine will have pretty much anniliated each other (someone's going to lob a nuke first) and 2) there's no way the global population will plummet 85%. Half, at best, unless we get some major forms of active destruction, going.

As Supreme Chancellor, I will lead our united peoples to victory against an invasion of super-intelligent amoebas.

I actuially predict it will be much the same. We're reaching a peak of how much of a boom we're gonna get out of the comptuer revolution, and it looks like moore's law is starting to plateau in pratice (i.e. not like previously where it was going to die sometime down the road)

Faster computer and more broadband.

I am suprise that no one mentioned the lack of usable water. I think the wars of the future will be over water/river.

Oil will be in high demand (we can kiss our $1/gallon gas prices for good).

Earth's population will be an all time high and put huge strain on scared resources (see water and oil above).

I think I will print a copy of this thread and look at it in 2014, LOL.

That's way out of line. It'll only be his fifth. Sheesh.

And John Titor is just some random guy who has made a very entertaining (and nothing more) phenomenon. Cheers to him.

Is anyone annoyed by the fact that almost every movie based on the future seems too "futuristic"?

I think Minority Report MIGHT have gotten it close, but I don't think that I, Robot was.

It's like how 50 years ago, they thought we would all be using flying cars by now...

Oh well.

In ten years time fat people will have won lawsuits against fast food chains. People will have sued inanimate objects for money and won, though I can't predict how payment will be made. Reality TV shows will be the only thing on, I still won't care as I still won't watch TV. The national IQ will have dropped to ~90, and the SATs will have to be changed again to raise the average score back up to 1,000. Michael Jackson will have bought out two more little boys and be working on a third. That's it for now, my third eye is closing.
