I know you've seen Something About Mary, be sure to masturbate beforehand

Yea, a loaded gun will get you into trouble. Put that head to sleep so you can use your other head to think!

I'm being dead serious, the OP may not think so. You can focus on personality and conversation more when you don't have the sex drive bothering you.

one more reply before I hit the shower. I am a photographer (serious hobby). This might come into play in the near future. In the meantime, I will hunt for some candids.

Well, it went okay. I think she was as cautious as I was. I have to think of something fun to do the next time we go out so I can loosen up and not feel like we interviewing each other. The trouble is, we share mutual friends, but we don't know much about each other.
the other danger is, we probably are sourcing our mutual friends to see how the other liked it, instead of just asking each other.

Line up another date ASAP obviously.

Dates I always use:
----------------------
summer:

dinner
walk through a local park
icecream
-possible drinks or go back to talk if it all goes great
----------------------
winter:

dinner
ice skating
hot chocolate
-possible drinks or go back to talk or watch movies etc
---------------------

I find these to be very stereotypical dates but effective. The scheduled events can be aborted at anytime. I dont tell them what I'm planning, I just say "I'll take you to dinner and we'll go from there". (aka, if i hate em, im out). Dinner is a great icebreaker. Then I like to find some sort of light activity where we can talk. Then relax again somewhere to talk again, mostly to keep changing events that way you'll maximize exposure time in a variety of venues. If it goes well, you can try to go somewhere more personal like to a bar for a few or back to watch some videos or something.

I always wonder if any of them figure out that I do the same things everytime. Makes me very comfortable dating doing the same thing all the time. I change it up AFTER the first date. I hate first dates, they are like interviews, but the more you do, the better you get.

good luck

I haven't been on a date in a while. I asked her out, and she agreed to meet for coffee to get away from the bar scene. I'm 28, and sick of going after chicks my age who think they are still a freshmen in college. All my lady action for the past few years has been from a result of just getting hammered.
So far taking a more mature (mentally) lady is refreshing.
It's in 2.5 hours from now.
Any last words of advice?
-I am going to shower, press my shirt since it's wrinkly.
-Shave carefully to avoid stupid nicks or gouges.
-Dab some good cologne on, but just a dab.
-Inspect for protruding nose hairs.
-Clean the road grime from yesterday's oil change from my nails. Even after three showers, some is still left.

Am I forgetting anything?

Flank the dolphin so you'll be more relaxed.

well looks like it went well, hope you get another date.

things i do before a date:
draw up a list of things i want to know about her and memorize it so when conversation lags and heads toward that awkward silent moment, i just ask her about something.
wash my car and clean up inside

color coordinate. shoes matter. cuff links are a nice touch, if the scene allows it.

have a billion things in mind to talk about. be inspired, passionate about at least a few of them. movies, politics, work, hell even the weather -- anything is better than meekly gripping your mug with both hands, beads of sweat on your brow forming from the exertion raking your mind for anything of substance; all the while her thinking 'never again'.

oh, and be able to know when it's not worth the effort on your part if you guys simply don't connect, and definitely learn be able to catch the 'totally uninterested' vibe off her, if it happens. don't drag it out if it's going nowhere. courteous, polite, brief hug, escort home if she needs it, call it a night, and move on.

Yeah, and if she's digging you but you're not really into her, just let her down easy.

"I'll tell ya what... this one's on you... I've got the next one."

Then you're not out the $$$ for dinner and she probably won't call you back.

Free dinner + not having to deal with her = teh win.
