$500 for a game console?? I am not crazy, I'll rather spend $1000 more to get a decent computer!

Is it me, or does the XBox sound EXACTLY like a computer?

What is the difference? The OS can't run IE, Office, etc.?

I don't see why people wouldn't be able to run XBox games on the PC.

I don't see why people wouldn't be able to copy their friend's XBox hard drive so that they can play XBox games.

I don't see why people with XBox wouldn't be able to format and install a "normal" OS.

Maybe consoles can do what they are supposed to and won't crash or refuse to run a game cause your DirectX or Video Drivers is suck. I might get the X-Box. If I have the money though!

Bonkers, nothing is perfectly sealed up so it can't be unsealed. Mr. Dremel or Senor Sledgehammer can always unseal anything that was once seen to be unsealable. ;)

Its a closed box gaming PC. Any games that come out for it, you can expect to be released right around the same time on PC.

Well I think it is the best of both worlds, consistent compatibility of a console, and the power of a computer. Video out on every video card I have every tried is really annoying, and never perfect... a $500 dollar gaming box that you can hook up to a HDTV, has a Ethernet port for real online gaming and interesting home networking possibilities. Doubles as a DVD player, all that with a very small footprint. I am suprised everyone here is downing this. Programming for X box will also be much easier then the PS2 so that is another advantage.

As far as that $499 deal goes it is bogus, it says below on the order page, that price is subject to change...

"This special bundle includes the Xbox game console and 3 of the hottest games available at launch (we'll ask for your game selection next year). Pricing is estimated and will be adjusted if necessary after offical pricing announcements. "
