I finally bought new laptop today and I am not sure whether to remove useless pre-installed softwares such as Norton Internet Security and other stuff I can get AVS and ZA Pro to replace them? My laptop has Vista Home Premium

This will probably not be the popular answer, but Since it is already installed I would try out the Norton first. The 2007 and newer versions are much better than the older versions with 360 getting some positive reviews. If you don't like it you can always remove it later and try another App. I have NAV 2007 on 3 machines and so far has been less trouble than the one on Kaspersky 6.0. I am seeing no slow downs with Norton 2207 vs some web sites do not play well with KAV, see the security forum for more details . As far as Virus protection I have seen comparatives that have shown both to have their strengths and no AV software beats smart surfing and not opening attachments without confirming the content.

I would personally uninstall everything you are not wanting....
BUT, Madamos has sense - use it and if you don't like it, uninstall - get the uninstall utility from Symantec though.
Usually, on a laptop, I will do a complete format and reinstall just to make sure that everything is how I like it with no added surprises.

If you do decide to completely reformat and install a clean OS make sure you have all the necessary Mobo and other drivers needed and an accual windows install disc not a manufactures image disc or you may end up right where you are.

Be careful if it's a Sony though. Uninstalling programs like that is most likely to cause the machine to start acting weird.

You're probably better of formatting the machine. But, again, be careful. If your machine's anything like a Sony, they don't come with any recovery disks or any driver disks. You have to create one using the utility provided. And after you've done that, make sure that you've stored the drive securely.

When I used to work for my college's IT department, whenever we received a new PC the first thing that we would do would be to format it with a fresh, clean windows install (the OEM usually only provides you with a disk with all of the crapware on it in an image, so find a copy of straight windows from a friend if that is the case and use the license key on the side of your PC, which they are required to attach, when it prompts you to enter a license).

I build my own PCs, so I never run into this problem. I usually go the same route when a family member asks me to setup their new PC.

I think you might be right about an image with crapwares.
