Pre amp help

I have been attempting to use a kenwood kr-8050 as a pre amp with my nad c356bee.
After getting advice from my local audiophile retailer i can not get the two amps to talk to eacha other using their recommended connections.
I was instructed to connet two rca splitters to the "pre out 1".
One splitter to the left rca and the other splitter to the right rca. I was then told to connect one amp rca to the left splitter and one rca to the left splitter...same for the sub. The sub is working fine but i'm getting no sound from the speakers on the external kenwood amp. Any thoughts?
Thanks van
