PQ vs real estate: ZT60 vs 6400

I am looking at either the 65" ZT60 or the 75" 6400. I have a Kuro but was wondering what people think about it. On one hand you get a lot more real estate, on the other you get a slightly better picture. It's a well-lit room so LCD might perform a bit better.

you will have to make the decision for yourself. Only you can determine at what point the loss of PQ is made up for by screen size

How far away is average viewing area? If it's only 8 or 10 feet (ish), I'd go for better quality. 65" is still a big a$$ screen.

Size matters? 😛

That said, if you're in a well-lit room you may not even notice the difference in PQ. Just a thought.

if your Kuro is a 50" its worth it to go to a 65" panasonic and take a very slight hit on PQ

if you have a 60" Kuro no it is not worth it to go to a 65" Pansonic

that is my opinion and i woudl not consider a non plasma

the 75 and larger LCDs from those who make them are actually pretty awesome mostly do to their massive size, but besides that the PQ is not close to the level of the Kuro

if you can ignore absolute PQ the LCD could work but i would check them out in person, the 75 is freeking massive, im not sure i have a wall big enough to put one on in my house and not have it look very out of place

I have a 60" Kuro but need a 2nd TV. I would put the new TV where my Kuro is now and put the Kuro downstairs, eventually putting speakers into the ceiling downstairs (wife factor). My TV cutout is 70" wide, just 2" too narrow for an 80" (doh!). I have about 12' of windows on one wall with the TV in the perpendicular wall. I have top-down-bottom-up shades so I usually have the top open to let some light in, so I usually get a lot of light.

I would probably pick the ZT60, mostly due to the wife acceptance factor and a 75" tv would look ridiculous in the place we're in right now. We went from a 40" 71F Samsung to a 55" HX929 Sony two years ago, and the screen size difference almost shocked my wife. The ZT60 won't be as good as a Kuro, but the size difference is minimal (i.e. not against the wife factor) and you won't lose as much PQ as you would by going with the Samsung F6400.

Did you check out the F7100 or F8000?

I guess why I am asking why a Kuro owner would abandon PQ.

You're not abandoning it with the ZT60, you are getting an upgrade.

And if OP already has a Kuro and it's fine, why are you worried about the brightness?

The ZT is the best picture quality CNET has ever reviewed, and that's including the Kuro.

You would take a slight step down with the other one, but it's 75", so there's that.

Which gets down to it. They are both about the same price but I get a much larger screen. Not sure whether I should give up the quality to get the real estate.

Unless you really need a brighter picture, get the ZT. The ZT and VT are the best plasmas out there if you have complete light control. Dont know why you would really consider a 6400, I have a f6350 (costco's non local dim version) and its a decent bedroom tv but I would never use it as a dedicated movie tv or for critical viewing.

I ended up getting the 65" ZT60 for 2950 from BBY. I decided that it's better to look at a smaller (but still big) beautiful TV rather than a bigger uglier one.

I got rid of a KRP-500M calibrated by D-Nice fora 65" Panasonic from Costco. I went real estate and i couldnt be happier. Bigger is definately better 🙂

Well not got rid of. Still have it. Anyone interested? 😛
