The registry edit doesn't add an overclocking section to nVidia drivers in Vista?

Try the original... you don't need any extra bells and whistles, just a simple registry modification to make the settings available.

*EDIT* Actually... the registry keys will probably have different paths... so the old registry file probably won't work, so look for it and make the change manually.

Well this is what the original coolbits registry tweak contains...

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvTweak]
"CoolBits"=dword:00000003

Current WHQL and beta drivers for Vista no longer support GPU overclocking. To get around this, you must install nTune, which, while it is supposed to be Vista-ready, doesn't actually install properly on Vista, and, although overclocking is supported by nVidia in nTune, it is currently broken. What a mess!

ATITool or RivaTuner are much better suited for overclocking.

This is my first post on the forum, seems like a great forum for tech issues,atleast I always find my way in here when I google my tech problems.
I appologise in advance for the length of the post and my bad english (its not my native languige))

My problem is not the same as jediphx here has, but the topic fits well, since i have troubble with powerstrip and vista

I`m curently using a vnc program to switch between a stationary and a laptop comuter, the laptop has 1280x800 max resolution (since its a widescreen or something) and i need it to be 1280x1024. I first tested powerstrip on a laptop with the same max res (1280 x 800) but with Win Xp running on it, then i installed powerstrip on the vista laptop, made a new monitor.inf file and updated the monitor driver from device manager (this is what i did on the xp laptop and it worked fine, i could choose 1280x1024 from the resolution list) . The vista lap approved the new modded monitor.inf but still the max res i could choose was 1280x800.

Annyone knows why ?

Try the newest drivers from Nvidia 158.xx. They have overclocking options. Or you could try ATI tool, it works in Vista 32 bits.

It`s not me youre answering there is it TroubleM ?

I dont want to \ need to overclock just force the resolution from 1280x800 (wide screen laptop format) to 1280x1024 on laptop running vista.

Try Gainward ExperTool 5.0,I find it works in my Vista X64,allowed me to underclock my Leadtek factory overclocked card(reduced speed by 10MHz) so that I have 100% stability in gaming,I had same problem in XP too ,that's how I knew it was my factory OC video card.

Make sure you run it as admin too.

Their site is down right now but this is what version 5 looks like link.
