I am also in the market for a powered USB 3.0 hub. Out of the millions of options, I will avoid the low end models with lights and switches with the nearly "too good to be true" low prices and stick with a brand name. The leading choice so far is the Anker Ultra Slim.
Been using powered hubs for over 20 years now. Went through many Belkins and others, 4 and 7 port. All ran hot and eventually lost a port or two after a couple of years.
Last year I got a "Plugable" 10 port USB 2.0 hub with a 12.5 watt power brick. It is now running almost a year with 8 devices, and it stays cool - no higher than room temp. I got it from Cyberguys, but it is available several places. It's the best hub I'ver ever had.
Thanks for the clarification - big difference. That limits the selection. In this casse I would strongly consider this one even though it is bus powered.
My motherboard only has two USB 3.0 ports, that's why I'm looking for a hub. A powered hub is preferable so I can use external hard drives that draw power from the bus, not necessarily to charge devices. A powered hub can usually be used without the power adapter.
