Cyberlink just released their PowerDVD 7 - long the best DVD player on the planet. It now includes full support for HD and other things.

It was an easy, seamless upgrade right over version 6.

IMO Power DVD sucks really bad, except for their superior implementation of Dolby Headphone. The reason it sucks is that there are alot of files it simply can't play. Had it been able to play all my video files with Dolby Headphone enabled I would give it an A+ simply because no other program out there offers a decent Dolby Headphone experience at all.

well, I'll check it out just to see how their decoders are for HD playback on my HTPC. I'm using nvidia's right now and it always f's up the deinterlacing.

Not true. The activation key is used locally in your computer, and registration on line is not required.

yep

They aren't mutually exclusive. Indeed, I am a love you long time user of MPC and ffdshow, but also PowerDVD -if only for the superior commercial codecs with HWA and DSP effects such as the aforementioned Dolby Headphone; personally I prefer SRS TruSurroundXT but in any case I use them via MPC not the PDVD player.

If you do use the player and loathe the inital graphic, try my h4x0r3d skin.

Strange... I had to activate on line.

To activate PowerDVD with a CD key, please follow the steps below:

Open PowerDVD
The Activation dialog box opens. (You can also display this dialog box by clicking the Configuration button, or click the CyberLink Logo on control panel, and then click Activate
Check your email from Element5 or CD jewel case which include a CD Key.
Enter your activation CD key, and then click OK

Note:

For Trial version or Internet-purchased Deluxe/Standar, version, you must be connected to the Internet to activate the program.

You can copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) your activation key into the first entry box.
Please do not right-click and paste using your mouse, as this will enter the entire CD key into the first entry box and leaving the other blank. This serial number (CD key) is 30 characters in length.

I put in on three systems today - all activations were local. Remember - these were upgrades to 6. A fresh install might be different.

Most likely Xvid files, but I haven't checked. I was under the impression that all you need to play either xvid, DivX or any other ASP format was an ASP compliant decoder (if xvid and DivX follow the standard that is)? Very strange that it won't play.

It does play XviD so the fault must be with the specific video file. Even if it was encoded with XviD it could have been some queer old non-standard beta or something.
