This month-end, AMD will launch the second product in its high-end Radeon HD 7900 series, the HD 7950, which is based on the same "Tahiti" silicon as the HD 7970, but with a few components disabled. Reliable sources revealed to DonanimHaber the reference clock speeds of the HD 7950. The core of the HD 7950 will be clocked at 800 MHz, and the memory at 1250 MHz (actual), 5.00 GHz (GDDR5 effective). This, compared to the 925 MHz (core), 1375 MHz (memory actual)/ 5.50 GHz (memory effective) clock speeds of the HD 7970. The HD 7950 will hence be a good overclocker considering the speeds it comes with, there is scope for quite a few factory-OC models from AIBs. In related news, DonanimHaber notes that the HD 7950 on average will be US $100-150 cheaper than the HD 7970 (US $400-$450).

Still want a twin frozr 3, too bad they weren't available at launch. Luckily my ref cards oc to 1250 with more juice 🙂 (or 1150 with no addtl voltage)

i am guessing anand has one or more already and benchmarks are done, just waiting for NDA to lift.

Anyone think this will be faster than XFIRE HD 6870s @ 975/1150?

I'm at work so I don't have much time to do research :$

2x 6870 @stock = 5-10% faster than a 580.

1x 7950 @stock = ~15% faster than a 580 or so (educated guess).

Im guessing since your 6870's are overclocked their faster than stock 7950....
but overclock that again, and you might well have a small performance boost.

the main reason to do it would be to avoid microstutter or wanting the 7xxx series features ect.

Is it worth the upg? depends on how much you can sell those 6870's for 😛

Huh...I have Unigine bench putting me ~25% faster than a single GTX 580 at default settings...😵

Well, either way it seems like I made the right choice going Crossfire 😎

8xxx series here I come! :awe:

Really looking forward to the 1.5GB version IF the price is $50 cheaper than the 3GB version. Price should ideally be at $350, but if it's more than that I'll wait.

I'm thinking it will be comparable. This is the card I was waiting for, but I decided to just get a reference 7970 just to make sure it's faster than my 6870's.
If you've noticed any microstuttering this one card will cure that and give you comparable performance.

I'm not sure I can justify $400 though :\

so this card, overclocked at stock voltage, should be abotu the same or faster than the 580 at much lower price, right? it's the same chip as the 7970, it should overclock like a beast as well.
