A partner breaking NDA? That can't be good....

Probably a move to get people not to jump on the 580. I doubt it will amount to much, but keeping themselves and AMD in the nerd-headlines is basically all they can do until they can launch the cards.

Well, 30-50% faster than the 6800 series would put it pretty close to a GTX 580. Hope that turns out to be true.

Powercolour are saying 30-50% faster than a 6870, for the 6970's.

To me that sounds like it ll still be a small bit under a 580 in performance... not by huge amounts though.
In some of the games where amd usually do better, it might end up beating the 580's.. in rest it ll be a bit below.

I hope that the 6970 pales in comparison to the 580. Why? I hope that AMD is forced to place the 6990 against it price-wise. :D

I'd much rather the 6970 be equal to it, cause then the 580's price will take a big hit and then the 6990 will fill in that price point (just a guess). ;)

The current 5970 is the same as a 580 performance wise, with a small egde in performance. So the 5970 is slightly faster than a 580.

Hopefully AMD's 6990 is faster than its 5970... so it ll be a faster card than the 580 and priced higher probably.

30% to 50% faster sure does cover allot of ground lol. The way she said it sounded like she pulled that number out of thin air....And a definte LOL at the "no one can compete with AMD" statement. Both nVidia and AMD are so full of crap when they make these statements about one another. I guess that is just fan boy cat nip though.

I hope it is very close so we can get some price wars going again and the prices for the 6970 and 580 are at a reasonable level. Granted everywhere except the gougegg.

I looked at the other pages on that site and man are there some nice custom 6800 cards there.

30%-50% where does it put it against the GTX 580?

30% faster than 6870

50% faster than 6850

So that would make it what 10% slower than a GTX 580?

doubtful.

If powercolor said anything at all then you can bet amd gave them the greenlight. if they really do have decent performance in 6970 they'd better start an aggressive leak campaign soon before everyone just jumps on a 580.

I predict 10% slower than 580 but quieter/cooler and priced at $449. they might go to $399 if they have decent supply of them.

if 50% the 6970 would beat the 580 in some things, not in all though.
if 30% the 6970 would be beat by a 580 in about everything by a small bit.

I think we ll see the 6970 as 5% to 10% slower overall than a 580.

The highest end of the video card price range isn't a big money maker. I doubt they have much to lose by holding off, especially if the problems are simply supply related as some rumors have suggested.

The 5870 was priced at $379 and the 5850 was priced at $259 at launch. Pricing the 6970 at $449 is a large price increase over the comparable card from the previous generation. AMD's performance/timeline chart shows the 6970 to be lower performing than the 5970.

Performance wise, the 6950 and 6970 are supposed to outperform the 480 and 470, respectively.

The 6990 is supposed to compete/beat the 580.

More like Cayman Pro is 30% faster than 6870, and Cayman XT is 50% faster (or ~35-40% faster than 5870), in line with the old leaks on unoptimized drivers. No new info yet.

GTX580 is about 45% faster than a GTX470. Since HD6870 is about as fast as the GTX470, HD6970 seems to be at least as fast as the 580.

Those charts beg to differ. Looks like the gtx 580 will be faster then the 6970.
Groverfinding would have lost his money. :)

gtx580~ 500$
6970
gtx570 ~400$
6950
gtx560 ~300$
6870
gtx550 ~200$
6850

This is my guess.

We are probably looking at the same scenario we usually see. Nvidia has the fastest single GPU. ATI has the fastest card, but with a dual GPU. They trade blows at whichever price range you want as they have a card that fills that slot.

they sell a lot of cards using that strategy and with drivers improving, we might see a 20% jump over time.
