Powercolor 9800SE $120 +shipping

Big question about this card: is it the 128-bit or 256-bit card? 256-bit 9800SEs carry a price premium, but are also better at softmodding and are better cards if the softmod is unsuccessful (~15k 3DMark2001 w/o softmod).

Softmodding the card is easy. Just go to Omegacorner.com, download his latest Omega Catalyst drivers, and install using his instructions.

soft modding = software modding

this means that you do not have to change anything physically. You might need to flash the BIOS, or simply install different drivers. For more info, google around and you will find hundreds of sites dedicated to this. Sorry, but I can't remember any of them at the moment.

This seems (although not advertised) to be the 256 bit. I think the L-shaped memory configuration means it is the 256 bit variety.

Keep in mind that even if it is the 256 bit version, it only has about a 50/50 chance of softmodding properly. So, if you're buying it only for that, you may be dissapointed (but you still end up with a fully functional 9800se)

The picture looks like the 256 bit version with the L shaped memory, but the description does not promise a particular model. Given their ResellerRatings, I wouldn't risk it. It doesn't sound like you would get satisfaction from them if they sent you the 128 bit version and you tried to argue that the other version was pictured on their website.

Their website terms and conditions reserve the right to change product descriptions. However, they do have a "100% Satisfaction Guarantee". Their ResellerRatings make me question whether they actually honor the guarantee, though.

If you do order this from them, you probably want to take a screenshot of the page showing the L-shaped memory, just in case you need to prove it later ...
