Cuz im planning on getting a vga in 2 weeks. Will it stay this cheap during this time? Also, is it true that PowerColor cards are actually build by Ati, and are totaly the same, with the only difference being the lack of "ATI" sticker on the card? Dang, i wish it stays 199 for 2 mo' weeks!!!!

Will it stay cheap? No one can say for sure but its a sign of price cuts in my mind because many times they start these before the actual price cut to get a little more money. If it doesn't, there are plenty of other 9700 non pros at that price. Just check out pricegrabber.com and newegg.com I believe has an FIC 9700 for almost the same price.

There have been a fe places online mentioning ATI price cuts and maybe a new card from ATI to counteract NV35, both of which will cause a drop in price for the 9700. With price cuts, everything is slashed in price, and with a new card taking the highest price, it will cause a chain reaction in prices.

YAY!
And fic is really, really gay. poor workmanship. Powercolor is kick-ass cuz its actually build by ati taiwanese plant (ATI proudly makes their stuff in Canada) + its retail. Yes, i kinda understood why the price dropped - cuz of the Radeon vs. FX wars. I remember when AMD vs Intel "Battle for the Gigahertz" began, prices on the cpu's less than 1 ghz dropped thru the ground. I was SO thankful that i didnt buy my CPU 2 weeks before...paid like 40 bux less! i just feel sorry for the ppl that paid 300+ for their pros and non-pros couple of weeks ago, and were braggin how cool they are, and "how low" their 16000 3dmarks were...lol. Teach em a lesson!
Thanks bro!
bTW, is pricegrabber just like pricewatch?

Doesn't Sapphire make boards for ATi, as in the "Built by ATi" cards?

Seem to remember reading about ATi phasing the manufacturing out to Sapphire a while back.

That's great! Enjoy 640x480 in 16 glorious colours! VGA is soooo much better than EGA!
;)
(Why do people still call video cards "VGA"? Technically, it's not....)

Not Powercolor, Sapphire is the big ATI manufacturer. Powercolor is decent, but it's not the same level of quality you'd get from Sapphire or ATI Retail. Don't be afraid to give it a try though....

Yeah, sapphire cards many times have nicer RAM on them allowing for easier overclocking and they're the ones who actually manufacture ATI's cards...

Don't spread bad data. It's not true... Sapphire and ATI may be together (I'll be confirming that in a Sapphire interview) but Powercolor, FIC and others ARE NOT.

I am sure Jeremy02 is telling the true, cuze I went to check the board of Redeon 9700 series, I fount out Ati, saphhire, powercolor, gigabyte and fic all use the SAME BOARD, pcb number and same marterial. I am sure their board are all from Ati.

p.s. blue max, one more question, how can u go interview sapphire? do u work with sapphire or something? if u do, can i get one from u? that will help me a lot.

No, I don't work for Sapphire. And if *I* can't get a freebie, you certainly can't either. :Q
I arranged an interview as a courtesy to SFFtech.com which is right up Sapphire's alley... no more info until the interview happens though. ;)

Yes - Sapphire makes ATi's cards.
