ok i dropped it but nothing is cracked but now the screen is lit gray and when it boots i move cursor around and there is vertical lines of pixels moving along with it and no other visible thing on screen anymore, works well with external screen is this the lcd or board any ideas?
 
Sounds like the LCD, but I'm not sure how you'd test that to be sure. If you're near an Apple store, you could take it in and see how they diagnose it before checking it in.
 
Being a former apple certified tech, I can say with much certainty that it is either the display or the cable connecting the display to the board, could have come loose during the impact. Really need to secure the connection and have another display to make sure. But the fact that its working with an external display tells you the video chip is working.
