Powerbook scam??

If the deal falls though and you do get the notebook back let me know. My cousin in Kazakhstan could use a new powerbook. He was going to buy one and already has an international money order in the amount of $2000.00. He will send and it and you can immediately ship the notebook. All that he asks is that you send $300 in change. What could go wrong?
 
Yikes -- well, thanks for the input.

Yes -- I have all the documentation. Buyer was 1) verified, and 2) has been a paypal member for over 2 years. Not sure if this makes any sort of a difference.

I thought of removing my bank information from paypal...are they still legally allowed to make debits? How about if I closed my paypal account?

Well if that is the case.. If anything happens I would be telling paypal to put HIS acct into negative.. If they still mess me with me it is lawyer time.

That is assuming the buyer did not get into a person's Paypal account by sending a:

"Dear Paypal User,
We close account unles you click here know!"*

*Bad spelling and wording done on purpose because the overseas scammers haven't mastered English very well😱

Well, in that case I still feel that the other person is at fault. THey were the dumbasses, not OP. I swear, Paypal needs to protect the sellers as much as the buyers.. If they try to pull any sh!t, you sue them and get the word out to tech sites.. They will buckle.

About 2 years ago I sold a bunch of junk (software) to someone who decided they didn't want it (for no reason, and I stated no refunds) he denied his charge on his card, and paypal in turn tried to WITHDRAW the money from my bank account (we're talking like $1500 or so)

someone from wachovia called me first, (at my local branch) and wanted to know if it was legit.. I said no.. it wasn't.. and they told paypal to screw themselves (that my account was not accepting withdrawl's from paypal inc or whomever)


then, I had to close my checking account and open a new one.

but... they didn't get their money.

I don't know the full legal run downs of Paypal but I would assume that if his account was verified and that he's been a member for 2 yrs, then you have a very good case.

OP: Did you sent the laptop with tracking & delivery confirmation? (Probably not)
If you didn't, the buyer can do a paypal chargeback, and you WILL lose the case.

In your paypal user agreement, you agreed to ship items over 250 dollar value with tracking and delivery confirmation.

Buyer will claim he never got it. BA-SCAM!

Tell the bank that no electronic transfers are allowed. That'll fix it 🙂

Edit: That's after you transfer everything from your Paypal account to your bank account, of course. 😛
 
I've taken some precautionary measures by taking the money out of Paypal and into my bank account, and the transaction has already been cleared.

This does absolutely NOTHING. Because Paypal can just take it from your bank account. And if you withdraw it even from your bank account so they can't withdraw it, they'll just sic a collection agency onto you, and you'll have your credit ruined.
 
Did you ship it to his verified shipping address? If the address was somewhere in the US and you shipped it to the phillipeans, I think you're still screwed. I seem to remember that the package has to go via a trackable service with signature at delivery to the verified account address for you to be covered by the seller protection policy.
