hmmm, if it didn't play out like it did (given it was a QP),... the winning ticket would have not been sold and we might have seen a billion dollar jackpot.


My first thought when I heard an 84 year old one it...

The numbers she got were determined randomly by computer at the exact moment the cashier punched the button for a Quick Pick ticket and that request was transmitted to Master Global Control for the lottery. No way either of the two people would have gotten those numbers if they had switched order in line because the moment of time would be different.

It's not as though there's a long list of prechosen numbers that the computer hands out in sequence, and even if there was, there are thousands of terminals cranking out tickets at the same time and a fraction of a second difference is all it would take to get a different number.

Randomly chosen when the ticket is purchased.

So feel free to let old ladies in front of you in the lottery line as it makes no damn difference.

If someone didn't let someone ahead of them in line, and the winning ticket was sold to the next person in line, is that better?
 
Who cares? Someone won and a lot of other people lost. All those other people are SOL as far as I'm concerned. If I GAVE someone the winning ticket myself (before I knew it was a winner) I wouldn't expect a dime of the money, much less giving someone my place in line at the counter.

This is how I feel. I'll never win the lottery because I don't play it. ALthough it doesn't stop me from fantasizing about it

Correct. 84 was 2nd in line, but 34 year old woman let's her go in front of her. Same scenario just like before.
But in this case 34 yr. wins the lotto who became 2nd in line. 84 yr.old remembers and mistakenly thinks that it could have been her who could have won if they didn't changed places.
 
Hell, it could have just as easy been the other way around, where the old lady cutting in line caused the 34 year old to buy the winning ticket after her. It's all fucking random.
 
Just based on simple IT knowledge, the numbers surely aren't generated based on "Who is next will get X-X-X-X-X and X Numbers". Then numbers are randomly generated based on time would be the likely correct guess. So unless the woman who got cut in line could get there and order the ticket at the exact same Millisecond, then the point/concept/story is moot and stupid.

Only people as stupid as those that buy a lotto daily. By all means, have your occasional (once every 3+ months or so) lucky day... play along for 1-5$ for when it's $200million+... but the people that get it to $200million.... are mentally handicapped.

Absolutely. Each got what they deserved. The person first in line got their deserved spot in line, and the next person in line, got the winning ticket.
 
The sad part is this old lady didn't seem too happy at the Lotto headquarters and wouldn't cooperate to do the pictures with the big check (I agree it is corny).

Her young relative with her (earring and all) seemed happy as a clam though.
 
Because of random number generator and timing odds are against Mindy getting same numbers. One thing we do know old womon definately would not have won either. If the old woman had any decency she should break off about 5 mil for Mindy.
