I don't think it is the power supply, because I have a digital lcd hooked up to it, and it is getting power, the colors change and it shows the time. But nothing else gets power.

I've read about Crucial ram not working with the 8RDA+ boards, you might want to check into it...

Ok, you have to eliminate some factors here. Only have the motherboard, ram, processor/heatsink, video card, and power supply. Don't have anything else hooked up (hard drive, cdrom, floppy, etc). None of the other stuff is required to post. Have the motherboard sitting on a table with the processor installed w/heatsink, memory installed, video card installed and the power supply hooked up to the motherboard.

To attempt to start the system, just use a metal flat tipped screw driver and touch the two pins that the power button normally connects to. It just takes a split second of contact and the screwdriver does not need to be held on the pins for the system to remain running, ie: touch the pins together and it should boot up. If this does not work, chances are that you could have a bad chip, ram, or motherboard. I am betting that you are shorting something out though while you had the board installed in the case because 2 dead motherboards just doesn't happen too often.

I'm quoting myself from another thread. Try this and see what happens.

Ok.

I took the mobo out. Only the video card, one stick of ram in the DIMM 3 slot, the cpu and heatsink, and the power supply was hooked up and the heatsink fan.

I tried to turn the power on and nothing happened.

Simple thing first: are you sure you got the case's power button wired to the motherboard's Power On/Off pins shown on page 3-12 of the manual? Sometimes people accidentally confuse the Power LED wiring or header with the Power On/Off Switch wiring/header.

If it's not that mixup.... what's your power supply brand & model? If you have another high-quality 300W+ power supply around, try it instead. Push hard on the video card to be certain it's all the way down into the AGP slot, too. Also, do check the orientation of the main ATX cable  It's not easy to reverse one, but it can be done

While you're looking it over, also make sure that the stepped end of your heatsink's base is facing the top edge of the motherboard. The step is there to provide clearance over the solid-plastic end of the CPU socket, which is at the top on your 8RDA+.

If the board still lays there and won't do anything, try stripping it of everything: no CPU, no RAM, no video, no drives. Plug your power supply into the raw motherboard and use a screwdriver tip to make momentary contact between the Power On/Off pins shown on page 3-12 of the manual. If the PSU fan starts spinning, the board isn't completely dead.

thanks for you help!

I re-checked the power switch, no power.

the stepped end was correct, the vid card was down all the way, so was the ram, and the main atx was in proper too.

no power.

although, for a slight second when i took the main atx out and then back in, the board LED went on for a millisecond, then no power.

I took everything off, no ram, no vid card, no cpu or hs.

no power.

You can test your power supply by using a wire that is about 4-6" long. On the large ATX connector, find where a green wire (there is only one) is and put one end of your wire into the pin of the green wire and then the other end any black wire in the ATX connector. If the power supply is good, the fan(s) will power up and stay on as long as you hold the wire in the connector.

I had this issue recently. It was a Asus P4PE but it might be the same prob. You have to use those brass screws that come with your case because if you don't it will short ciruit out and so on. Brass doesn't not conduct electricity!

Tried everything and finally got tired of it. Returned it and go a new one.

It was a bad mobo, I hate when that happens.

Thanks for all your help!

BTW: does anyone know how to hook up a front panel fire wire to the board, the pins don't seem to stay in the slot, am I doing it wrong, is there some type of adapter I need?
