both these come with an external power supply and that i want to know if i move around which i do often; if its possible for me to plug it into a usb 2.0 and will it supply the temporary power for transfers or that it is only possible that i have to connect the external power supply.
 
Usually if they give you the powersupply you NEED to have it to power it. Some smaller external hard drives might be able to power themselves through USB 2.0 or Firewire. I have an external enclosure and have to carry around the power supply. It's a hassle but when I have all my files in my hand wherever I go, it's worth it.
