power tool question?

Man, I've gone my whole life without owning even a chop saw, let alone a compound slider. Not sure how I got by all this time, but I did. Used cope joints and borrowed from others I guess. If I do buy one, it will be Delta, DeWalt or Ridgid. Only way I'd buy a cheaper tool, is if I could easily return it. Never had any luck with low end power tools.

is it worth it? or should i save up for a real saw.

You should save up for a real saw. The cheapest sliding compound miter saw I found was a Dewalt 10" for $399. That one might work for some cuts but I wouldn't count on it to make repeated cuts consistantly at the same angle.
