Power supply

I am building a computer, these are some of the specs:

Asus A8N32 or A8R32, 7900GT, and 2G ram.

What power supply should I buy? I don't want it too loud. Quiet as possible.
Also, what about fans or heat sinks for overclocking. How many fans do I want? One over the MB and Video?

Now, check out a ocz 600, has upgradibility, and headroom, or even a 520 at that


7900gt

Id go with a zalman vf700cu, and a zalman cnps 9500 for the cpu,

Also, i would go with the a8n32
and get a small 40mm fan and attach it to the main mobo heatpipe sync, and also, get some arctic silver 5 or arctic silver ceramique for the mosfets, chipset coolers, gpu, cpu ect


best stuff around

And, just get some masscool fans from newegg, 1 dolalr each if yuo buy 10

I would suggest an Antec TruePower PS jack bauer, which model would depend on all the components you will have in your new rig :)

Im going to have to disagree with you thare,



The antec powersupplies are not very good under load at all, and i perosnally would rather take a aspire psu over a antec psu, due to the problems they tend to have, such as the pc power and cooling 510, as i have seen almost 5 cases whare the posu goes ahead and takes all the components out with it.

You're more than entitled to your opinion 2gigs, I haven't had any issues w/ my Antec TP PS, it's very quiet w/ it's 120mm thermo-controlled exhaust fan and that is why I recommend it :)

ok, im just a ocz guy, i mean, thare really good oin rmas, and i know i admitted to them i sorta blew it up and they took it back so


The antec i used, it was really bad, fan went out in 6 months

actually I would say you have many many choices...Fortron makes excellent PSU`s...best bang for the buck bar none.

Enermax dooes a nice job.

Seasonic does a nice job.

Then you have your industrial PSU`s...
PC Power & Cooling and Zippy.....Both are awesome.

I personally would stay away from Antec as there newer models seem to be still having CAP issues...
You really don`t need to be sending your PSU back 6 months down the road due to something that could have totally beenb avoided.

Before I make the joke and my point as well, let me say that Enermax makes some fine and stout power supplies. However, the joke I've heard is a play on words over their Noisetaker models. People call them Noisemakers because yes, they are nice and quiet while not under load due to the variable speed fan deal. However, under full load which is the way us gamers mostly use them, they are a noisy bucket of bolts comared to the OCZ. I'd get the OCZ 520 watt Powerstream model or the 600 watt job. Stay away from the Modstream models.

The other stuff I'll defer to others on because my belief system does not include air cooling in a water cooled world.

I didn`t think OCZ made any good power supplies.
They all look like they are well loaded with extras that are not needed on a power supply.

Who needs a led fan on a power supply?
Last time I checked modular still wasn`t fashionable.
I have yet to to see where you get your figures.."I'd get the OCZ 520 watt Powerstream model or the 600 watt job. Stay away from the Modstream models. "

Personally I wouldn`t be caught dead using a OCZ power supply.
I would choose an Enermax over OCZ any day.

Green lights and the fancy, chromed case are wasted om me as well, but under full load, those who've had both report that the OCZ is quieter. I didn't buy the OCZ for how it looks. I actually purchased it in spite of the stupid, teenaged look and to that extent, I know what you mean and I wish the manufacturers would respect us as adults and not try to manipulate us as if we were small children. Just think how much better the OCZ power supply would have been if they stuck the money for the stupid green light and the chrome plating into the guts of the unit like Enermax does.

Then suposedly responsible reviewers of power supplies will bitch because Enermax makes a no nonsense looking power supply. It is simply form and function over style and splash. The most that can be said against them is they are a bit more noisy under load than the OCZ.

So you are spending some dough for this build.
Look at cases that have a front and rear 120mm fan for good but quiet case ventilation.
For cheap, the Antec SLK 3000B. My current favorite is the Akasa Eclipse 62. Google
reviews. It sells for<$150. It doesn't have a pretty face but has many features I want for
my next build.

For CPU HSs read some of our stickied reviews at the top of the page. There are about a
dozen very good sinks. I all depends on what you want to spend as prices can vary form
<$30 to >$70.

For cheap but good go with a Fortron that has a 120mm fan for quiet. For a little better
quality plus a little less noise go with a S12 Seasonic.
I would buy a Silverstone Strider ATM. The higher end Silverstone PSU are made by
Enhance, a very good supplier.

If you want quiet get a Seasonic S12-500. Anoher good choice would be the Fortron AX500-A or AX450-PN. Both are quiet, a bit cheaper and should be more then enough for that system.

The Akasa case is a much better presentation and build of a three year old GlobalWin design.
IIRC, GlobalWin makes it for Akasa. Look at the GlobalWin line for a full tower but their
cases are very industrial in apperance so don't be disappointed by the pics.
If I were to get the 62, the first thing I'd do is remove the front grill area and replace it
with 1/4" octagon modders mesh. It would be bonded from the inside of the front panel.
Some home a/c filtering material would be used to keep the internals clean.

The enermax noisetaker series isn't loud as I've got a 600w sitting in my machine right now. I've also got an enermax liberty 620w in one of my other nf4 machines and it is quiet plus it's got a single large 120mm fan and is modular. Whatever you do don't skimp on your ps or it will come back to haunt you later.
