Power Supply

Im wondering what effect the 20 pin vs 24 pin psu is having on my overclock.

Its a san diego 3700 11x230 @2.530. Its completelye stable and cool at that speed but if i even take it to 231 it wont post. Any thoughts?

Its a good 500w antec psu but is only 20 pin, which the mobo manual said would work fine despite having a 24 pin plug.

Aspire is flashy but cheap. I wouldn't have gotten it. SHould have gotten a nice Antec, Seasonic, or something.

you need to tell us system specs, like the motherboard your using

and aspire probably isn't that good

the reputable powersupply companies are fortron, antec, seasonic, enermax, tagan, t&t, ocz modstreams (i think), fortron has an affliate called flower something

the only board i know that requires the 24 pin is the dfi nf4's

Bad move. Return the Aspire and keep the Antec.

24pin doesn't matter, you can still use a 20 pinon a 24 pin powersupply or you can get an adapter.

If its not the PSU then why can't I post at 231 fsb. I know its not the ram because ive ran it stable at 225 and with the multi its only at 207 now. Also my temp is 36 c idle 47c heavy load. Also it doesnt matter how much voltage I use beyond 230. I barely had to up the voltage at all to get to 230. 1.49 voltage now. ram voltage is fine at 2.7 and pci express voltage is from 1.5-1.6

I have a 500watt Aspire unit. I'm running a Barton and Nforce2 board. I'm overclocked to 11x200, and my PC keeps shutting down, runs fine at 133x14 though. I'm guessing my problem is the power supply. 🙁

Because not all chips are garaunteed to OC to a specific clock frequency. You just got an unlucky processor, nothing to do with the PSU. That system probably doesn't even break 250watts underload.

Want proof, go over to Silent PC Review and look for yourself.

Silent PC review? I would assume though there would be a margin of instablity. I have never heard of a pc Running perfectly stable, then 1 fsb adjust later not booting at all. My guess is not enough amps from the power supply. Anyone else have the same Mobo and Board?

It seems you are willing to argue whatever anyone says about your power supply anyway so what is the point of you posting this thread?

NO! The chip has to stop somewhere. You dont think it will just gradually work less and less or something. Look at anands reviews of motherboards. A lot of the time they cannot get it past one clockspeed or another.

You just didn't get a good OCing chip or motherboard...deal with it. Your PSU is fine and is capable of delivering almost double the power required for that system.

If you are thinking about all of this you need to brush up on your facts about OCing and what not.

And, yeah... Silent PC Review. You find me a better place that reviews PSU out there... i garauntee (even when AT was doing PSU reviews) that SilentPCReview was the best out there.
