Power Supply

Can anyone recommend a good power supply for my upcoming system (brand and power level)? It will have:

Athlon 64 3000+
6600GT or X700
nForce4 Mobo
1 GB 3200 RAM
40 GB hard drive

Thanks

It should be enough to handle that. I would agree that the OCZ Powerstream or PC Power and Cooling make the best PSU's, but are pricey. The only difference with PCI express PSU's is the motherboard and video card pin layouts, but they make adapters that will fit. I know PC Power and Cooling makes a PCI Express PSU if you don't want to use adapters.

You could consider going for the Ultra X-Connect 500W modular PSU. They are also a bit pricey, but it's gotta be the best PSU I've used yet. I've got a pretty power hungry system, and this PSU performs beautifully. Ultra has also stated that they WILL be producing PCI-e cables, and the unit comes with SATA cables now. It's worth at least looking into. 😀

Umm.. Aren't those just rebadged Powmax? They suck. Do a search here. Some poor guy just had one of those take out his mobo & cpu.

Powmax PSU's blow ass...no argument there. I would however argue that the Ultra is definitely NOT a Powmax copy. I did quite a bit of research before buying mine, and I haven't heard much bad about them except for the rare instances like you mentioned which could be said of any PSU. 😛

OCZ is terribly over-priced. Personally I buy TTGI/Super Flower, they are made in the same OEM factory as Enermax, so your basically getting the same thing for less. I picked up my 450watt SuperFlower for $60 over the summer. Running a 2.6ghz Barton, 6800 ultra extreme, 4 hard drives, 2 optical, etc etc. rock solid rails and never a hint of trouble. Glorious 27A 12V rail for $60,shipped.

Nice...😀

I have the OCZ PowerStream 420 watt with an Athlon 64 2800+, Geforce 6800GT, fans galore and lighting- absolutely wonderful!
