Power Supply Testers and wrist grounder

Anybody has any ideas about the "Antec ATX Power Supply Tester"

does anyone really need an ATX power supply tester?

also what are your thoughts on wrist grounders, we used to use them at my old firm infrequently 🙂, i am not sure if i should invest in one, since my floor is carepetted at home.
 
If your floor is carpeted, you should really wear a grounding strap. The only really safe surfaces is unfinished hardwood and cement. I've never used a grounding strap and never fried a component. But when if it really matters to you, I suggest you use one. It drastically minimizes the chance of zapping a piece of hardware.


And as for power supply testers, they do just what the name implies. They determine whether or not the ATX or molex connecters are recieving correct voltages, or power at all.
 
"invest" in a wrist grounder? Haha, got mine at Radio Shack for like 3 bucks.

EDIT: And yes, you definately should invest in one. I was walking around on my carpeted floor at home, touched my computer case and shocked myself. Scared the f outa me, now I wear it wherever I go.
 
Those PSU testers are useful for a Q & D test and since they cost $10. or less, might as well have one in the tool kit. I like the Powmax one as it is cheaper and has more LEDs 😉 - but it does lack a power switch. Easy enough to resolve that. I wonder if they have one that works with both the 20 and 24 pin connectors now?
. If you have a clue, it is easy to keep oneself discharged while working on equipment without a wrist strap. May be a help for the clueless or careless...

PS testers are a handy thing to have if you mess with other people's PCs. Beyond that you may only need one rarely.
I've got one and I'm glad I do.
 
hehe....I bought a wrist strap after I fried my first mobo.
Of course I really shouldn't have been working on it barefooted sitting on the livingroom carpet. 😱
Heck that 486 cost me a ton of cash!
