Power supply Requirements?

Assuming you went with the highest-end quad core Core2 based CPU peak power would be in the mid to low 400 watt range at most. A good 600 watt unit would be fine; my suggestion would be a Seasonic M12/S12 or Zalman's ZM600-HP (600watt).

According to Anand.....

Total system power consumption when running our benchmarks, at times, peaked at over 520W with the SLI setup.

The OP has 6 HDD's as well.

That's AC power consumption from the wall, not DC power used by the hardware. Assuming that the PSU was operating at 80% efficiency that would put the DC consumption at 416 watts which is roughly I what I stated in my original post.

They also used a 1,000 watt PSU loaded at roughly 50% of it's capacity. A 600-700 unit would have turned in lower AC consumption numbers since PSUs operate at their peak when loaded 60-70% of their capacity.

The hard drives are only significant power draw when they are spinning up. Once they are up and running their power draw is relatively low, even considering that there is six of them.

That`s just the was it is!!

Very true. If I went by their calculations and utilized 75% of my system according to them I would have needed an 895w PSU!

ooo... hmmm it used to be accurate i swear, i just did my system on it and it thinks i need 620 watts :/ when i used is 6 months back on my system it said 427 ive only added 2 hard drives :/

Must be some killer hard drives! 🙂
