Power supply requirements for MSI K8N Diamond Plus MB?

Hello everyone,
I'm in the process of putting together my first build. I purchased an MSI K8N Diamond Plus Motherboard and an Antec LifeStyle SONATA II Case with an equipped 450Watt SmartPower 2.0 ATX 12V V2.0 PSU. I figured the power supply equipped in this case would be sufficient for my motherboard, but I'm having doubts now. What the heck is this 8-pin 12V CPU connector? Is this something not available on my power supply? What type of power supply would I need to properly power my motherboard? Will I need to replace the power supply? People using this motherboard, please let me know what type of PSU's you use! I'm in desperate need of help! Thank you.

I'm a computer building newbie also, but I just bought the Antec SONATA II case with the MSI K8N Diamond Plus MB and I have the same question. I just joined this forum and when I saw your post, I hoped that I would see the answer. If you learned the answer to this, could you post it?

Thanks
Paul

the antec smartpower 2.0 series of psu are fairly new and you shouldn't have any problems using it to power most (if not all) of today's mobos. certainly if you plan on put sli to use then you might want to consider a better psu with (true) 500w or more.

It is an 8 pin EPS 12v connector. I have heard that you can use your existing 4 pin connector with no problems. Just have to be careful as to what side you install it on.

Perhaps these people here:http://forum.msi.com.tw/ can help you.

Yep, you can use the regular 4-pin power connector fine, it's clearly marked which half of the 8-pin connector to hook it up to.

Looks like I have an adapter that came with a PSU that converts the 4-pin connector to 8-pins (black to black & yellow to yellow). Not sure if it will make a difference in stability but I guess I might as well use it.

What about that 4-pin molex connector on the motherboard? If both of my GPUs have their own PCI-E power line going into them, do I need to bother with that 4-pin molex on the M/B and create more cable clutter?

Always look for good, clean power. Cheaper power supplies will have high advertised watt ratings but disperse very poor power, damaging to hardware at times.
