Power Supply Question....?

I bought a new power supply(EG651P-VE...550W), and I have it mounted in my case. I wanted to see how loud the case fans were going to be so I plugged in a couple of the fans and plugged in the power supply but nothing fired up. I checked the wall outlet which has 121v, checked the connections coming out of the power supply but have no dc output. The power supply doesn't have to be hooked up to a mobo to work does it? When I turn on the l/O switch I can see the lights in the room flicker for a second(like when I turn on my klipsch). Could use a little input here...

filmore...you're a sweetheart! Thank you! Son-of-a binuchi!!! I feel pretty silly but very relieved, thanks again...I'm putting together a system and was hooking up things like the fan controller and floppy and uv light and lcd indicator and I figured I'd check out the fans. I thought the power supply would fire up without being connected to the mobo...thanks again, hope you'll be around to answer so more rookie questions in the future...lol 🙂

No problem, I'm glad to be of some help. I had to start my journey with learning how to install memory on my first 486 board (tried to shove it straight down in the slot when you had to first insert it at an angle - ended up taking it in to the computer shop where I had bought the box from. The tech gave me a disgusted look and showed me the correct way to do it). There wasn't an Anand Tech around at that time, I think he was still in grade school.
Good luck
