I am going to build a new pc in the next couple of weeks and was wondering on what kind of psu I should buy. I'm planning on going with a p4 1.6a or 1.8a with an asus motherboard. I'm going to have 1 20 gig hd 1 40 gig hd 1 cdrw 1 dvd rom going. Will 300w be enough? Should I go with 340w? Any recommendations on which one to get since I'm completely illiterate on this subject. Also, does anyone recommend an online store to purchase a lian-li case? Thanks
 
it depends on how much you want to spend and if you plan on adding any MORE components...but for that i think 300 should be enough. as for PS, antec, enermax, and sparkle are my recommendations.
 
Check into the offerings by www.quietpc.com. There is nothing like a silent 300Watt power supply. I was reeled in by the Enermex Whisper 400Watt offering, and I was quite dissappointed. I use a PC in an audio studio, and a silent PC is of utter importance.


Keep in mind, the PS is usually the noiset component in your system...unless you run an obnoxious 38 CFM delta fan or the likes.

Another vote for the quietpc 300W psu. I have one and it is completely silent. Only downside is that there aren't any pots to adjust the 5V/12V rails, but mine is about 4.92V under load.
 
Thanks for the great advice. Does anyone know what the shipping prices for the quietpc are? It looks like it ships from the UK.

Try ordering from Canada. (quietpc.ca I think). I paid about $95. It's well worth the purchase...trust me.
 
another vote for the enemrax whisper series. if you think that hte quietpc ones are too much you can get the whisper series which has an adjsutable fan on it and is very quiet as well
