Power Supply Question

I am rebuilding my rig as we speak.I just have one question.I am running:
Abit KG7 Raid
AMD Athlon 1600 XP
768 Crucial PC2100
ATI Radeon 64mg
Soundblaster live platinum
Western digital 40 gig HD
Pioneer 16X DVD
Plextor 10x12x32
My question is,I ordered a Enermax EG365P-VE FC 350W power supply,it hasn't come yet.I am wondering if I should use my old power supply which is a Deer 300W until my other one comes. Will it cause my system to be unstable?

Hey Mike, I would try use it in the interim and if it doesn't get the job done atleast you'll have a definitive answer. Furthermore, the odds that it would do any permanent damage are highly improbable. I ran a 1.4T-Bird with a Deer 300w although not with power hungry 2100DDR and it ran like a jewel despite the Deer only being approved up to the 1.2ghz. Please post the results if you decide to give it a go, I'm curious now! 🙂

Is there a higher requirement for an XP1600+ over a Tbird 1400, they are both 1.4ghz so I'd imagine they're ain't.

It's 300w minimum for a 1.4ghz yeah?

The deer 300 is rated for the 1600 XP. The XP chips draw less power, so while the 300s are only rated to 1.2 on the T-Bird chipset, they are fine for the 1600 XP (although that is where they max out).

I would try it - shouldn't be a problem.

Have fun!
