Power Supply Problem...Noob

Hi,

I really hope that this is a stupid question but.....

I`m transferring my system to a new Thermaltake Tsunami case to which I`ve now fitted a Tagan 420w i-Xeye. I figured that as this thing looks so fanastic in reviews that I would fire it up to take a look before fitting anything else.

On doing so nothing happened...no lights...no sound....no power. Please tell me that this is because I`ve not hooked up to the mainboard yet!

Most PSUs need to be hooked up to a motherboard to run.

All (ATX) PSUs need to be hooked up to the motherboard to run. You can jump one of the pins to ground if you want to test it without a motherboard (search for readily-available instructions).

Take a small wire and jump the green cable to any black cable on the ATX connector and it will turn on.

And you just made the OP kill himself doing that.

Kill himself? That will work fine. You just need a short jump wire to do it. I did it to test my homemade baybus.

It's safe...do it.

Really, It is... I have done this several time to test PSU's. Not like you are jumping 120/240v main lines. Up to you though. Only do what you are comfortable doing..
