Power supply problem, I think

ok, here is the deal this computer runs for about 10-15 min. then it shuts down after making a funny pop-click noise, not like the one when you hold down a key as the computer boots up, much louder. So I hit the power button again and its starts up continually making that pop-click noise and shutting down then starting up then shutting down then starting up again etc. so the CPU fan starts up then stops starts up and stops, you get the picture. I think it is a bad power supply; however, it is relatively new 300 watt PS and has been replaced once before. I figured that for some reason the PS is extra hot and causing power to be cut, yes the fan does spin 😉 just my guess. Any ideas on what it might be?

Does it sound like an electrical popping sound? If so I would go buy a new PS and try out the new one to see if it pops too. You could always take it back if it doesn't fix your problem.

Yep it is an electronic sound. oh by the way its not the computer in my sig. also it is a 500Mhz AMD k6-2 and it has integrated video. so does it really need that 300 watt PS.

Your computer doesn't have to have a 300W PSU. Believe it or not, I ran my Big Berta with a 145W PSU from an old Gateway Pentium Pro for a few weeks while my 300W PSU came in. O.k. I was desperate but it worked fine.
