my power supply died and i put a new one in. the second one died. i tried a third one but didn't attach it to the case. the power supply hasn't died yet. is it possible that it's the case that's causing this? how can the case kill the power supply?

A power supply might die if its output rail(s) get shorted somehow, but a lot of PSUs can survive that.

It might be the motherboard.

Time frame to kill the first 2? Uptime on the new one? Could be your house wiring too. Specs on the psus?

Search teh case for any concealed weapons. Knife. Gun. Of course, if the case is really smart, it's killing the case with poison. So be thorough in your search.

first one it killed was an enermax whisper 350w. the second was an antec smartpower 350w. the third is actually from a compaq, hipro 250w

sounds like a short somewhere, try running it all outside of your case (on something nonconductive) if it works then it probably was the case, though generaly a short in the case would kill the motherboard before the power supply.
