hey all,

I was wondering how large a power supply is adequate for an athlon xp 3000 and radeon 9800 pro. I had one that was only 350W and I was seeing a lot of random reboots. Is that amount not sufficient for the hardware just mentioned?

It depends on weather the power supply was a generic or not, what was the 350w power supply? I am using a 350W enermax with a 2.8e P4 at 3.5Ghz, and a geforce 6800GT, so a name brand 350W PSU should be plenty for you.

sounds like a crappy 350 if you ask me.

i run 4 hdds, 2 optical, Barton 2.2ghz, Radeon 9700 Pro without a hitch.

That surprises me that you haven't had any problems with a GeForce FX 6800GT and a Pentium 4 overclocked to 3.5GHz with only a 350WATT PSU? I heard that the GeForce FX 6800GT needed two 12V/5V Molex connectors and that you would have reboot problems if you didn't have a PSU of 450WATT or higher? What else do you have on your system?

It seems that im definitely a lot more stable with the 420 watt PSU. i guess i was taxing the generic 350W too much. I'm having heat issues too, but the random rebooting thing has gone away with the bigger PSU

The 6800GT only uses 1 molex connector, the Ultra is the one that uses two, although I am running mine at ultra speeds. My system specs: 2x36GB WD raptors in raid 0, 2.8E prescott@3.5ghz(Thermalright SP94 heatsink and thermaltake 72.5cfm fan) Asus P4P800, 2x512MB kingmax PC4000 DDR@500mhz, Gainward golden sample 6800GT@ultra speeds, NEC 2510A 8x dual layer burner, M-audio revolution sound card, and linksys wireless card, 2x120MM fans, and an 80mm fan. And I've had 0 problems with my 350W enermax. 24 hours of prime95 torture tests with 0 problems. The power supply does have 26A on the 12v rail, so that certainly helps.
