Power Supply Fan Problem

Of note this is a completely new system. The power supply fan will not work above 1800 rpms causing my ASUS CUSL2-C motherboard to overheat. The Hardware Monitor program of BIOS indicates this as a problem when I go into Setup. How can I be sure that the reading of both the fan's speed and the corresponding high MB temperature are not false positive? Any other symptoms I should look for? Is the motherboard's voltage regulator also a factor I should consider? A detailed response would be appreciated.(By the way I am not overclocking my Pentium III 800EB-FCPGA processor.)

I didn't understand your problem completely (how do you know your board overheats?), but if you're monitoring your PSU fan's speed via the motherboard and if your fan is slower than some board-specific speed it sometimes causes the BIOS hardware monitoring to show strange values or to crash. But that doesn't necessarily mean you have some problem at all (overheating or something like that). If that's the case you should look for a newer BIOS version.

The problem is that when the motherboard temperature reading exceeds
50 degrees Centigrade I get a warning in that the reading exceeds what ASUS recommends. I do not know the exact consequences of operating at such a high temperature in terms of the affect on the motherboard itself and the components on it. In less than 10 minutes the temperature went go from
30 to 51 C, at which point I shut the system down. I do not know if there is an upper limit and whether or not it will level off at some point. I can't find any information about this problem on ASUS site. Since the only other bad reading relates to the speed of the power supply fan I am making the assumption that the two are correlated unless the Hardware Monitor is misreporting (i.e., giving a false positive reading). I have already replaced this motherboard once which corrected another problem I was having. My options as I see them are:1) change the power supply;2) change the motherboard once again;3)change the air-flow within the case. If anyone has other suggestions I am open to them.
