The other night my power supply burned out. So I decided to try an old dell power supply I had in the basement. It was only after that I found out that the dell power supply is wired completety different! My question is did this destroy the MB? The power supply made a loud noise whenever It was plugged it. Was this some safety device or is it time for a new MB with the new Power supply.

Another concern of mine is that when I upgraded to bios on my current board I ran into a problem. (It's an a8v deluxe btw) The Fx-53 I have in would not boot with the newer bios. So I had to downgrade. (After buying a90nm cpu and returning) Think this has been fixed in the current revsions or will I have to go through that again!

chances are the MB is gone, but the only way to know would be to test it with a compliant psu, of course. i don't see any reason why the fx-53 wouldn't work...

Thanks for the replay. I went ahead and ordered a new PSU and a new MB as well as a 90nm 3000+(Which I can return). I don't know why the fx-53 wouldn't work I can tell you that it would only boot with what if I remember correctly was the 1007 bios.

If it was an old PSU made by/for Dell, then chances are it's proprietary...you smoked your motherboard :(.

I just want to confirm that no other devices should of been damaged? Will I run into Cd-rom problems, Graphics cards or CPU issues when I replace the MB?

None of the other components should be damaged at all. The only differant wiring would be what goes to the motherboard.
