The psu is the base of a good system, start with that not the cpu or mb

Plz scan the stickied PSU post for anything concerning PFC, read all the links posted there.

I like having it on any PSU I buy but it is not necessary and will have no effect on brown-outs.

I agree that lab tests, say not much effect, but I most certainly notice a difference in my house. Of course, as I said, my area is kinda known for its common brownouts. And power usage is a lot better.

It is insanity if anyone suggests the Aspire.

If you are buying a PSU for under a $100. Get the Fortron. They are up there with the likes of Seasonic and Enermax.

A brownout is a large dip in AC voltage.

A PSU with APFC can run fine down to 90v AC where as a PSU with PPFC or non at all is going to run into problems much faster. Either way the hold up time should be much better with an APFC since non PFC PSU?s are constantly wasting (AC) power anyway regardless of whether or not you charged for it (apparent vs. actual draw).
