Power Supply Choice for my Antec Super Lanboy?

I've been looking at a few power supplies at Newegg to match the Super Lanboy case.

I kind of like this one, but I'm not sure if it would mount correctly in the Lanboy case to take advantage of the plexi. Any ideas?

This is the power supply that was in the Super Lanboy display model at CompUSA.

These Aspire power supplies are getting good ratings at Newegg and seem to match the Super Lanboy case in aesthetics. I'm not really into all this neon stuff, but I figure that I should have one fun case.

Am I overlooking any potential problems with having the plexi on the power supply?

If these aren't good pics, what should I look at?

TIA,

Sal

Even newegg says to not use their ratings (from customers) to base your purchase decision. See how those PSU's rate on REAL review sites before going to them. Personally, I wouldn't get either one of them...

What would you get?

My requirements are that I want a sturdy power supply of course, but I also want a Blue LED and quiet operation (preferrably some way to control the fan speed) and would also like wrapped cables.

I currently have a XP2400+ system, but I'm looking for this power supply to take me to a Athlon 64 upgrade in a few months.

Any suggestions?

Why is the blue LED a requirement? To me, that's foolish. I'd rather get a QUALITY PSU then one with bling. For a while there frozencpu was give free sleeving with all PSU's purchased (ran out Jan 3rd). That would have been the time to get one.

I've had NO issues with the Antec NeoPower 480W unit that's inside my rig. I've had other Antec PSU's before and never had an issue with them. Of course those were the TruePower models, not the SL or blue ones. A PSU should be one component that you don't care if it has lites on/in it, or what not, as long as it gets the job done (delivers stable power with enough amps to feed your rig).

I'd look at quality over aesthics any day. Look at proven reliable vendors. ie Antec, Enermax, PC Power & Cooling, Zippy

Also for the future needs I'd get a 24pin psu w/ atleast in the 480-550w range..

ie. Antec 550EPS for $113

Jose

I thought that I could have all these days. Blue light and a good PSU.

I used to be sold on Antec until I started experiencing some failures. I had two fail on me and a friend had two fail on him as well. 2 were the cheaper SL series and a couple were the TruePower series. I bought a Coolmax silent power supply a few months back and couldn't be happier with it. So, I'm not that willing to pay the premium these days for Antec power supplies. Especially when they are noisy IMO.

The only reason why I wanted a blue fan power supply is because I wanted to have a bit of fun with this case. I've never done neon or lights or anything. All my builds have been straight up no frills with quality components. Since I bought the Super LanBoy, I thought that I'd have a little fun is all.

Thanks again.

if the psu hole in the superlanboy is ATX, then any ATX psu should fit. i dont know how big that case is, but you might have problems with the cables being to long.

It's an ATX case. I'm only asking because the OCZ power supplies are a little oversized and people have problems fitting the actual power supplies in some cases.

Antec TrueBlue or look for the Fortron Blue Storm (IIRC) on Newegg. Has a 120mm lighted fan, comes in 350 and 400W versions. I have the 350W version (sans lights) in a system now and it's great. Adjustable fan and solid power.

The Fortron looks like a nice power supply! Thanks! I think it splits the difference between something flashy like a Aspire and an OCZ or big bucks Antec. A year ago, I would've easily gone for the Antec, but they've kind of lost me as of late with the failures that I've seen. I just won't pay the premium for the Antec any longer. Plus, they were never quiet and that pissed me off. The Fortron in the 500w doesn't have a fan control, but it does have the 120mm fan, so I think it will be quiet unlike the dual 80mm fan psu's.

Here's the PSU I'm looking at. It looks to be of good quality. It has the blue fans and is sleeved. It also has a 120 mm fan, so it should be quiet. This looks to be the one. Thanks!

I have a power supply that like this only has an intake fan. What I don't like about it is that it sends warm air inside the case through openings in the PSU wall that faces in.

My next PSU will have a large intake fan as well as an exhaust fan.

Too bad you missed out on the Zippy that censusPC was blowing out... Failing that, take a look at the Silverstone 460W with active PFC - you can add your own blue LED fan if that's what floats your boat. Or perhaps the TTGI modular could do it for you (at censusPC et al.).
