Power supply and/or power switch dead - HELP!

Somehow tonight things went very wrong when I went to transfer my parts over to my new Chieftec Dragon case. I installed everything and went to power up, only to have my 340W Enlight power supply self-destruct as soon as I powered up. It basically made a cracking noise and I saw a brief flash out of the back, then would not stir at all. I nearly peed my pants, thinking that my mobo, etc. were roasted.

I tried transferring an old PSU into the case and that would not work at all either. Finally the only way to restore function was by transferring everything, including my old PSU, over to my old case.

Could I have somehow roasted the case's power switch? Is a PSU user-serviceable? I imagine the fuse blew on it, but that was probably all, since there were no smoke, flames, or anything too serious.

I also wonder what caused this in the first place. I have built systems before, and as near as I can tell the mobo and the PSU were correctly installed. I used brass mounting risers that came with the case for the mobo, and the only errors I MIGHT have made were related to the various teeny little cables for the power switch, power LED, reset button, etc.

Anyone have any advice?

Maybe when the power supply blew it took out the wire for the power switch? As far as I know there is nothing in an ATX power switch that can be "broken". I think all it does is send a signal to the motherboard telling it to fire up the system. It's not like AT switches that actually have an on/off position. Did you try and use a screw driver to short the 2 wires on the motherboard?

I don't know jack about working with electronics, but from what I've read it is NOT a good idea to service your power supply. They can hold a charge big enough to kill you (again, this is from what I've read). Have you checked to see what the warranty was? Maybe Enlight will replace it for you?

i've had 3 Enlight power supplies do the same thing...every time, it was just the power supply that went

i don't think anything on the board is blown....but do not try to fix the power supply. send it back and get a HEC or an Antec power supply.

with regards to the case, i dunno. the power switch sends a signal to the motherboard and then the motherboard goes to the power supply for power. i don't see what could go wrong there. there's a SLIGHT chance that something happened to the switch but i doubt it.

i'd get a new PS, install everything back into your new case, and take it from there
