I just downgrades to a gx260 to save some money and now im thinking of throwing in an old video card to play CS:S. I am looking at a 9800, 9600, or 6600gt, I would rather grab a 9800 or 6600 but concerned about the power supply, it has 250 watt, I am pretty sure it would just not work with the 6600 but on the 9800 they "recommend" 300W but do not require it. I have 1 disc drive, 2 hard drives, and a usb external DAC. Will I need to upgrade the PS to use the 9800, has anyone ran a 9800 on 250W power supply??? Thanks

Downgrading to a smaller power supply will not save you any money. Getting a better quality power supply will.

I downgraded my entire system...sold the old gaming machine bought a cheap dell....now seeing if I could drop a 9800pro in there to run CS:S ok, I kinda miss that game

i run on my shuttle sff system:
2 7200 rpm hard drives
1 dvd burner
1 wireless card
2 sticks of ram
2.4 p4 overclocked to 3.4
9800 pro at xt speeds

all on the stock 200w power supply.

in the past the rig had a prescott 3.0 at 3.7 but had insufficant cooling to keep it in permantly. Still running great after 2.5 years using it 24-7 as a cs:s server 🙂
