Power supplies: How high wattage is good enough?

My PSU fan is giving out and im thinking about swapping the whole thing out for a new PSU. My current one is generic @ 300watts.

I'm looking at a few PS's from Antec:

Antec True330
Antec True380
Antec True430

My current setup (which includes 2 IDE HD's, 2 Optical drives, 1 powered fan (for the cpu) and a couple other PCI devices) has run fine on my 300 watt PSU. In this case, is more simply better? The True430 only costs $5 more than the 380, and the 380 costs $30 more than the 330. Which one would best suit me? If the extra power is ultimately not going be needed then id rather save the $30 and go with the 330. I plan to add a cpu (Barton) and maybe a couple HD's at the most in future.

Please, any advice would be nice.

The True330 should be plenty for your current config, but if you plan for more in the future,
then go with more like at least a 350watt psu or greater.

only buy more then u need if its very little difference in cost. 330 is more then enuph even if it weren't truepower.

I personally think 330 is infact enough, but really, anyone here think $30 is worth the extra 50watts? Or $35 is worth 100 extra watts?

I really don't wanna sell myself short and wind up having to get a new PSU when nvidia or AMD/Intel releases a new power hungry piece of hardware....

Replacing the fan in the PSU would cost, like, $5 or less.

It sounds to me like you're looking to spend a bunch of money you don't need to, in which case the 430 is definately the right choice.

I`ll go with the 430w,the reason why is simple,it`s a long term investment and will allow you many more hardware upgrades before you`ll ever need to replace even a 430w PSU.

300Watts of quality psu is def enough. don't get hyped up by the marketing or people out to post specs 😉 unless you are planning to add another couple of fans and lights i don't see the point of you going higher.. unless you plan to use a no brand $12 400watt psu.

I'd say the True330 is about perfectly matched for your hardware, though if you intended on adding another couple devices I'd probably suggest the True380.

I use a Antec True Power 330 to power a overclocked XP system with lot's of drives. 100% Stable.

My Spec's:
Antec True Power 330
MSI K7N2 Delta-ISLR
XP 1600+ O/C @ 2000+
ATI 9700NP O/C'ed 351/297
1GB Crucial in Dual Channel Mode
Toshiba DVD-Rom
52X Asus CD-R
1 Seagate 80GB
1 Maxtor 20GB
2 Western Digital 60GB in RAID 0
4 Panaflow Case fans

As you can see I have alot of drives and the Antec 330 T.P. performs nicely.
