Power requirements for a 6800 NU

For one make sure its a quality psu, 420 watts is fine. Anything lower then ehhhh you start to slip. I am running a thermaltake 420 watt psu thats 30 dollars on my a64 oced and 6800 with 11.92=11.98 12V.

You're overstating the wattage a bit. 6800NU is actually a fairly low power card.

However, we need the rest of the PC specs to decide what is an acceptable PSU wattage.

On BFGtech.com website they list 300watt PSU for the 6800OC model

I have that same card running in a Dell PowerEdge 400SC with a 250watt PSU.

Indeed it is !! Try and not split the line amongst that many power hungry devices. The most practical setup would be one line to power both drives, and one line to the vid card. I run a Thermaltake and an Enlight, both 420 watt units, which are far from top quality units, but seem to do fine for under $50 while running a medium range gaming rig.

A quality 250 watt would be the minimum for safe operation. I would reccomend a 350 watt PSU by a reputable brand to unlock the pipes and overclock it. So if you fall somewhere in between those 2 numbers, or over, you're good to go! 🙂

OK thanks guys. I split up my power. I got 2 to my HDs and 1 to my Vid card now. Running an Antec 400 watt. Hopefully I won't have any problems

will be plenty.

350 is the lowest watt PSU you can go with a 6800 vid card. Also, take into account the stuff you have plugged into it I.E. HDD's, CDR, fans, etc. I have a Cooler Master 350 PSU and it works fine with my 6 fan, P4 2.8 HT, and 1 MAXTOR HDD drive.

yea these babies suck a lot of juice. my POS 430W couldnt handle it and now ive actually gotten something that can handle it all and then some

Oh yeah... then those reports of people running them on 250s and all those people with SFF systems are wrong eh?

No a QUALITY 250Watt will be ok. 350 is reccomended.

BUt do they take into account all the stuff they have plugged into the 250W PSU?????? I wouldn't think so. Why take a risk with a QUALITY 250 PSU when you can hitthe bare minimum with a QUALITY 350 PSU, eh? I am just trying to not give the guy a wrong impression and burn out his system. I myself have a QUALITY 350 PSU (COOLER MASTER) and it runs my BFG6800 and MSI 6600GT (when I put it in) just fine, ALL ALONG with my HDD, CDRW, 6 80mm fans, 1 120 fan, 1 cathode, and 1 HDD fan.

I have a Shuttle SFF system with 250Watt PSU. Running P4 3.0 @ 3.5, BFG 6800GT OC @ 390, Audigy 2, a Raptor, 2 other hard drives and also powering 3 fans (CPU, MB, 5.25 HD Fan). My system runs rock stable.
